FAYETTEVILLE -- Fayetteville used a dominating third quarter Friday night to run past Rogers High.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with 13 consecutive points and defeated the Mounties 70-48 in 7A-West Conference play. Collin Cooper scored 25 points and Jon Conley 17 to lead Fayetteville (9-6, 2-1). Garrett Dake scored 13 and Elliott Paschal 11 for Rogers (7-9, 0-3) despite being in foul trouble for much of the game.
Rogers only trailed 28-24 late in the second quarter before Fayetteville dominated the third quarter by outscoring the Mounties 24-7. Cooper scored five points during the surge and the Bulldogs harassed Rogers into turnovers that resulted in baskets on the other end.
Fayetteville forced 25 turnovers to 14 for the Mounties.
"We're trying to extend the floor as much as we can because we've got so many guards," Fayetteville coach Kyle Adams said. "They're very athletic with great feet and, by the third quarter or fourth quarter, it kind of takes its toll."
Fayetteville led 26-13 after two quick 3-point baskets by Cooper. But Rogers fought back and cut its halftime deficit to 30-24 behind the play of Garrett Drake, who made consecutive rebound baskets. Elliott Paschal followed with two free throws before the second quarter ended with two charging calls against the Mounties.

Fayetteville outscored Rogers 15-3 in the second quarter while posting an easy win over the Lady Mounties.
Jasmine Franklin had 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Fayetteville (11-3, 3-0). Sasha Goforth overcame a slow start to finish with 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who led 54-24 after three quarters.
Rogers had nearly as many turnovers, 13, as points in the first half when the Lady Mounties trailed 33-16. Rogers (9-7, 2-1) finished with 21 turnovers to only four for Fayetteville.
"Defensively, we're so blessed to have Jasmine in the paint," Fayetteville coach Vic Rimmer said. "She's a double-double machine. We did a lot better job of guarding the perimeter after the first quarter."
Madison Loyd and Kate McConnell each had six points to lead Rogers.
Rogers played well in the first quarter and only trailed 16-13 after a 3-point basket by Loyd. But Fayetteville took control with its pressure defense early in the second quarter and increased its lead to 29-16 after a rebound basket by Franklin.
Reserves finished the game in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock because of the sportsmanship rule.
