UAMS slashing 600 jobs to curb deficit

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, its Little Rock campus shown here, has eliminated 600 positions, including 258 that are currently filled.

The state's largest public employer are cutting 600 positions, nearly half of which were filled, Monday in an effort to curb a deficit almost double the amount it initially budgeted.
