Cave Springs man pleads guilty to attempted murder

BENTONVILLE -- Brendan Brecheen pleaded guilty today to attempted first-degree murder and was sentenced to 29 years in prison.

Brecheen, 27, of Cave Springs, was originally charged with attempted capital murder, a Class Y felony; along with terroristic act and possession of firearm by certain persons, both Class B felonies.

He pleaded guilty Monday to the attempted first-degree murder charge, also a Class Y felony, and the two remaining charges. He was sentenced to 29 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, with an additional 19 years suspended sentence.

Police went to 602 N.W. 17th Court in Bentonville at 12:40 a.m. Dec. 23 to investigate a report of an armed robbery. A man told police he was riding in a car driven by Brecheen when Brecheen pulled a handgun and threatened to rob him. The man said he escaped and Brecheen fired at him as he fled.

The man wasn't injured, but bullets hit a nearby home and parked car, according court documents.

Brecheen fled and police caught him at 3:22 a.m. at the Kum & Go at 2811 E. Central Ave. in Bentonville, according to court documents.

Police found a 9mm handgun on Brecheen, according to court documents.
