Trooper arrests suspect in hit-and-run

HOT SPRINGS -- A previously convicted felon wanted by Arkansas State Police and Montgomery County authorities was arrested Sunday afternoon on warrants and felony charges of possession of drugs and firearms.

Larry Michael Griffith II, 23, who lists a Mill Creek Road address, was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 270 West at the Brady Mountain One Stop and charged with felony counts of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison; possession of meth, punishable by up to 10 years; and possession of firearms by a certain person, punishable by up to six years.

Griffith remained in custody with no bail set as of Tuesday.

According to the probable cause affidavit, state police Trooper Ryan Wingo was notified that a person wanted by Montgomery County authorities and the state police was traveling toward Hot Springs on U.S. 270 West.

The suspect, later identified as Griffith, was reportedly sought in connection with a hit-and-run property damage accident that occurred at Piney Junction on Dec. 17.

Wingo caught up with the vehicle Griffith was reportedly riding in when it stopped at the Brady Mountain One Stop at 7214 Albert Pike Road. As Wingo pulled into the parking lot, Griffith was reportedly standing outside the vehicle.

Griffith was taken into custody, and the vehicle was searched. Wingo found a pill bottle with Griffith's name on it and an unloaded Beretta handgun, according to reports. The pill bottle contained about 2.3 grams of meth, reports said.
