Burn holiday calories at Spa City Jockey Jog

The holidays have come and gone, but the season of giving never ends. In support of Arkansas Children's Hospital, Garland County's Circle of Friends gears up for its third annual Jockey Jog 5K.

Created with runners, walkers and strollers in mind, the 5K will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in downtown Hot Springs.

The 5K timed run and 5K family walk/run begin and end in downtown Hot Springs, at Transportation Depot, 100 Broadway Terrace. The course uses the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail.

The 3.1 mile race will head south toward the trail from Orange Street and take the trail to Hollywood Park, passing public water and restrooms before following the same route back to the depot.

Hot Springs is hilly; there will be 133 feet of uphill on the route.

Preregistration is available for $35 through jockeyjog.kintera.org until 10 a.m. Friday, and racers also can donate more to fundraisers through the website. Registration will be $40 on the day of race. Kids under 12 can run for free.

Packets can be picked up at Deluca's Pizzeria Napoletana, 407 Park Ave., between 5 and 9 p.m. Friday, or on the day of the race from 9 to 10 a.m.

The race will be timed by the Spa Pacers running club. A medal and prize will be given to the first, second and third overall male and female finishers. Also, the first three finishers in five-year age brackets (from 10-14 to 70 and older) will receive either a medal or certificate.

With hot chocolate and games galore, this fundraising footrace is for the entire family. Take out your best jockey attire, but leave the horses and reins at home.
