CLASS 3A GIRLS: Martin propels Marianna over Fordyce

MONTICELLO -- Junior guard Tionna Martin hit a free throw with 2.4 seconds left as the Marianna Lady Trojans stunned Fordyce 39-38 in the opening round of the Class 3A state tournament at Drew Central High School.

Martin finished with a game-high 27 points, scoring 12 in the opening quarter and 8 in the fourth as the Lady Trojans (21-12) rallied from a 27-25 deficit entering the final eight minutes.

Fordyce (27-6) had a 20-game winning streak snapped. The Lady Bugs had not lost since suffering a 58-46 setback against Sylvan Hills on Dec. 27.

Senior forward Lamya Bulliner led Fordyce with 13 points, 10 of which came in the first quarter. Freshman Caitlin Bulliner added seven points.

HARDING ACADEMY 65,

PRESCOTT 47

Senior point guard Audrey Laird scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, including a 13-of-13 performance from the free-throw line, as the Lady Wildcats (22-12) cruised to a victory over the Lady Curley Wolves.

Laird finished with a game-high 25 points and was 15 of 17 from the line.

The teams were tied at 12-12 after one quarter, but Harding Academy used a 20-9 second quarter to set the tone for the remainder of the game.

Junior guard Alden Graves added 10 points for Harding Academy while sophomore Caroline Citty and senior Layne Pace each added nine. All nine of Pace's points came on three-pointers.

Senior guard Lacie Nolen led Prescott with 16 points. Senior Haleigh Wiley added seven.

Harding Academy hit 23 of 26 free-throw attempts, including all 20 in the second half. Prescott was 5 of 6 from the line.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 47,

ELKINS 34

Junior guard Kaley Shipman hit 3 three-pointers, was 7 of 8 from the line and finished with a game-high 26 points as the Lady Yellowjackets (27-2) rolled by the Lady Elks (19-11).

Mountain View held Elkins to two points in the third quarter and to nine in the second half. Elkins led 12-10 after one quarter but trailed 27-25 at the half.

Senior Cheyenne Shelton added 11 points for Mountain View, which has now won 13 consecutive games.

Senior Tink Harris led the Lady Elks with eight points while senior Shelby Diaville put in 7.

BOYS

JUNCTION CITY 61,

HARDING ACADEMY 53

Despite hitting only 8 of 26 free-throw attempts, the Dragons (17-12) upset the Wildcats (22-9).

Junior Jerrodney Tubbs led Junction City with 16 points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter. Senior Jalen Davis added 14 points and senior Shuvasceiaye Frazier put in 10.

Harding Academy led 32-30 at the half but was held to two points in the third quarter.

Senior Peydon Harlow led Harding Academy with 21 points. Junior Davis Morgan added 10 for Harding Academy, which was 11 of 15 from the free-throw line.

McGEHEE 44, GLEN ROSE 30

Senior Deonta Haynes scored nine of his game-high 11 points in the second half as the Owls (26-4) posted a victory over the Beavers (14-18).

McGehee held Glen Rose to 16 points through the first three quarters, taking a 23-point advantage entering the final quarter.

Senior Zac Henry added 10 and junior Daryla Polite 8 for McGehee, which extended its winning streak to 12 games.

McGehee led 11-2 after one quarter and 19-11 at the half.

Senior Noah Ellis scored 10 points to lead Glen Rose.

OSCEOLA 70, ELKINS 63

Junior guard Makai Caruthers was 7 of 7 from the free-throw line and scored 12 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter as the Seminoles (24-7) downed the Elks (20-12).

Osceola led 19-14 after one quarter, 33-25 at the half and 44-35 after three quarters.

Seniors Derrell Brown and Dante Adams added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Osceola.

Junior Chad Graham posted a teamhigh 17 points for Elkins. Senior Layne Evans added 13, sophomore Paxton Barnett had 11 and senior Ethan Hipps scored 10.
