Kelly steers Hall to victory

Alaysia Kelly has learned to drive, and it made a difference for the Little Rock Hall Lady Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Kelly, a senior post player who was 11 of 18 from the free-throw line, finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds as Hall outlasted host Jacksonville 65-60 in the fifth-place game of the 6A-East Conference tournament.

Hall (14-14) will play Lake Hamilton in the 6A state tournament Wednesday at West Memphis. Jacksonville (15-16) will have a first-round game against Sheridan on Thursday.

Kelly drove into the lane and was fouled five times during the second half. She hit 7 of 10 fourth-quarter free-throw attempts.

"She has put driving into her game, which is a big plus for her," Hall Coach Selita Farr said. "Eighteen times [at the free-throw line], that's good."

Sophomore Kendra Pride also had a productive afternoon for the Lady Warriors, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Jacksonville led 38-33 early in the third quarter, but Hall responded with 16 consecutive points and never trailed again. Three-pointers by junior Allexias Adams and senior Erin Carbin sparked the Lady Warriors' rally.

Carbin scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half while grabbing seven rebounds. Adams, who sat out most of the first half with foul problems, scored 11 of her 15 points in the final two quarters.

"[Adams] has had several games like that," Farr said. "I told her that she was the freshest of the bunch because she sat most of the first half, so she needed to get after it in the second half."

Sophomore Shy Christopher kept the Lady Titans in the game, scoring 15 of her game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter. She also grabbed nine rebounds. Junior Deshundra Shockley added 12 points and senior Shatorria Briggs had 9 points, 4 steals and 4 assists.
