A Fayetteville High School student was arrested Thursday after police said he theatened in a social media post to "shoot up the high school," police spokesman Anthony Murphy said this morning.

The student's name has not been released.

Police investigated and found "no credible threat to the high school," according to a news release from the school district. School is going on as normal today, district spokesman Alan Wilbourn said.

The student's age was not released, but Wilbourn said he is younger than 18.

Police plan to release more information today, Murphy said.

The student wrote he wanted to "shoot up the high school like they did in Florida," according to the news release. Seventeen people died Wednesday in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

A student saw the post and reported it to a teacher, Wilbourn said. The boy who made the threat apparently thought he was being "glib" and making a joke, Wilbourn said.

The school, however, took the threat seriously and asked police to investigate.

"When we are made aware of any type of threat, we work together with the police to act swiftly and decisively," Superintendent Matthew Wendt said in the release.

The boy faces school disciplinary actions and broke the law by threatening the school, Wilbourn said.
