Responses to president may validate his election

I wonder if, after a year, those who voted for this president are having second thoughts. Perhaps it wasn't enough to choose a plain-speaking, celebrity business man for our highest office. We are learning, after one year in office, he doesn't understand how difficult self-government is, doesn't seem to want to engage effectively in policy making, doesn't want to read national decurity briefings and has a very low commitment to following our Constitution.

Yet, perhaps his election will be a good thing for our country. Perhaps we all need to learn how to interpret political double-speak, pay closer attention to what local, state and national governments are doing, read our constitutions, state and national, and write lots of letters to our elected leaders to let them know we are watching them and we want them to make wise choices on our behalf.

If we are thus reawakened to the difficult task of citizenship in our effort to govern ourselves, the election of Donald Trump as president may yet be a good thing.
