Blytheville man, 20, gets 30 years for murder

A 20-year-old Blytheville man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing a man in 2016.

Dante Reed of Blytheville on Monday entered a guilty plea to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Michael Angelo Scott.

Reed and his cousin, Jeremy Reed, surrendered to authorities a day after Scott was fatally shot Oct. 11, 2016. They were initially held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

The two men were at Scott's Hearn Street house in Blytheville earlier in the evening and got into an altercation with him, according to Capt. Scott Adams, commander of the Blytheville Police Department's criminal investigation division. The two left but returned later that night before Scott was fatally shot, Adams said.

Online court records show Jeremy Reed pleaded guilty Monday to a single count of possession of a firearm by a certain person and was sentenced to probation.

Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington thanked the deputy prosecutor who handled the case, Gina Knight, and police investigators.

"Through the efforts of both, a murderer is now behind bars and away from the citizens of Mississippi County," he said in a statement.
