4 more Arkansas school districts close because of flu

Four more Arkansas school districts have canceled classes because of a high number of students, and faculty and staff members being sick.

Schools in the Bald Knob, Batesville, Beebe and Cabot school districts will be closed today, according to Facebook posts from the school districts.

"We will be disinfecting all buildings tomorrow and this weekend," the post from Batesville School District said. "Please help us out with this and do not send students to school who are still showing symptoms of illness."

All after-school and weekend activities will continue as scheduled, the district said.

The Bald Knob School District will host a district basketball tournament, with games taking place tonight and Saturday evening, according to its statement. After-school activities also will take place tonight in the Cabot district.

The districts are among several in the state -- including Gurdon, McCrory, Russellville, Danville and Mountainburg -- that have canceled classes because of illness and flu-like symptoms in the past month.

Arkansas' death toll this flu season is 140, which includes three children, according to the latest state Department of Health report.
