Where I live: in the Fayetteville historic district, which is within walking distance of Dickson Street, the Fayetteville square and restaurants.
Occupation: I'm a full-time artist who works with sculpture and collage.
My favorite space is: my living room. I've been renovating this house for quite some time and it's finally ready. I'm really excited to be in the house. In my living room I have both traditional and modern furniture, French art deco, 1920s furniture, and I put art in it. I like to keep the walls neutral so the art has a chance to stand out, I like art and well designed furniture to be the focus.
Why: I recently recommitted myself to being an artist full time. My art studio is on the second floor, so I like my living room because it's minimal, a space where I can relax and keep my work on a separate floor from the studio. I feel like I'm in an entirely different place. That's one thing I really like about it. My art studio can be messy, but then I can come downstairs and sit in the living room, which is totally clean and organized. For any workspace, it's important to remove myself not only physically but emotionally for a while. If my art is in sight, I find myself peeking over at it and thinking 'Oh, I need to do this or that' to it.
If I could make one change to this space, I would: not really change anything. I like it just the way it is.
