FAYETTEVILLE -- A Springdale man was sentenced to federal prison Thursday for stealing firearms.

Chad Sales, 31, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay a $2,900 fine and $1,000 in restitution for one count of theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee.

Springdale police went to a burglary June 13 at Arky Armory, 871 E. Robinson Ave., and found 45 firearms were stolen. During the investigation, officers saw Sales' silver Jeep Cherokee on the surveillance footage. Officers found and searched Sales' vehicle and found six stolen guns and a suppressor.

Sales admitted to stealing firearms. Police recovered and returned the majority of the stolen firearms.

Sales took police to a shed in Sonora where he stored more guns. They found 34 guns and 17 suppressors, plus other stolen items taken from Arky Army, police said.

Sales was indicted by a federal grand jury in July and entered a guilty plea in September.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Harris prosecuted the case.
