A 68-year-old woman was fatally struck on Interstate 430 after she tried to collect an item on the highway in North Little Rock, authorities said.
It happened about 6:45 p.m. Monday near the Crystal Hill Road exit, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report.
Shirley Ames of Russellville stepped into the traffic lanes to pick up an item from the roadway and was hit by a northbound 2010 Cadillac CTS, according to the report. Ames died at the scene.
The report did not say what item was on the highway, and a police spokesman said the information likely wouldn't be available until a fuller report is completed in a few days.
The weather at the time of the crash was clear.
