NWA fishing report

Beaver Lake

Black bass and crappie are biting.

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker said black bass can be caught with jerk baits, Alabama rigs or crawdad-colored crank baits. Points in the midlake area are good spots to fish.

Crappie are biting minnows or jigs 15 feet deep on the south half of the lake.

Striped bass are scattered lakewide. To find stripers, locate shad schools with a depth finder or look for gulls feeding on shad.

Beaver tailwater

The top lures are small spoons or Flicker Shads, especially during power generation. Fly fishermen are using San Juan worms, midges or pheasant-tails.

Illinois River

Stroud recommends fishing for black bass with jerk baits or jig and pigs. Use a hair jig, not a rubber-skirted jig.

Table Rock Lake

Pete Wenners at Pete's Professional Guide Service said anglers should watch for a threadfin shad die-off happening in the cold water. During a shad kill, fish with a white hair jig 15 feet deep under a bobber.

Fish the jig along bluffs and channel swings. Or, fish wherever gulls are feeding on the dying shad.
