ARTY PARTY

Opening of Marin exhibit draws crowd to arts center

Every parking space was taken Jan. 25 at the Arkansas Arts Center for "Becoming John Marin: Modernist at Work," a new exhibit celebrating the works of the artist.

The evening began with a cocktail hour and a presentation on his work by Ann Prentice Wagner, the curator of the exhibition. Later, members of the arts center gathered in the main lobby for a buffet, dancing and a first look at the artist's work.

Marin, who lived from 1870-1953, was part of a group of modern artists that included Georgia O'Keeffe, Marsden Hartley and Arthur Dove. The exhibition includes works on loans from the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The exhibition will be open to the public through April 22. More information is available at arkansasartscenter.org/john-marin.
