81-year-old Arkansas woman beaten, robbed by teen who forced his way into home, police say

An Arkansas teen faces multiple felony charges, including attempted rape, after an 81-year-old woman was beaten and robbed in her home Thursday, police said.

The Pine Bluff woman told officers she answered the door when the bell rang at her home on Edgewood Drive, according to a news release from the city's Police Department.

She was met by a 17-year-old with a long gun who forced his way into the home, police said.

The teen demanded that she write him a check, and then he beat her, using the gun as a club, the release states. He reportedly fled with some money when someone came to the door.

The woman suffered serious injuries, authorities said.

Police arrested a 17-year-old, who confessed to the crime later in the day, and retrieved the money he had taken, according to the release.

The teen will face charges of aggravated residential burglary, aggravated robbery, first-degree battery and attempted rape, police wrote.

Police spokesman Richard Wegner said the teen likely will be charged as an adult, but his name was not released Friday afternoon.
