Liddi’s single leads Naturals to win against Drillers

TULSA, Okla. — Alex Liddi hit a two-run single in the fourth inning, leading the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to an 8-4 win over the Tulsa Drillers on Thursday.

The single by Liddi, part of a three-run inning, gave the Naturals a 5-3 lead before Anderson Miller hit an RBI single later in the inning.

The Naturals later tacked on two runs in the fifth when Kort Peterson scored on a ground out and Samir Duenez hit an RBI single to secure the victory.

Starter Jace Vines (4-3) got the win while Jason Richman (1-1) took the loss in relief in the Texas League game.

DJ Peters homered and singled for the Drillers.

SPRINGFIELD 6, ARKANSAS 3

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — John Nogowski had three hits and three RBI, and Genesis Cabrera allowed just four hits over six innings as the Springfield Cardinals beat the Arkansas Travelers 6-3 on Thursday.

Seth Elledge got Donnie Walton to ground out with runners on first and second to end the game for his fourth save of the season.

Cabrera (1-3) picked up the win after he struck out four and walked one while allowing two runs.

Springfield batted around in the first inning, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring five runs, including a three-run home run by Chris Chinea.

The Cardinals tacked on another run in the fourth when Nogowski hit an RBI single, driving in Evan Mendoza.

Rob Whalen (0-2) went three innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out four and walked two.

For the Travelers, Kyle Lewis doubled and singled.

Despite the loss, Arkansas is 21-10 against Springfield this season.

CORPUS CHRISTI 3, FRISCO 1

FRISCO, Texas — Josh Rojas singled twice as the Corpus Christi Hooks beat the Frisco RoughRiders 3-1 on Thursday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Hooks and a three-game winning streak for the RoughRiders.

Erasmo Pinales struck Preston Beck out with a runner on first to end the game for his seventh save of the season.

Corpus Christi started the scoring in the first inning when Rojas hit an RBI single and then scored on a double by Taylor Jones.

The RoughRiders cut into the deficit in the third inning when Luis Mendez hit a solo home run.

The Hooks tacked on another run in the seventh when Jake Marisnick hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Eduardo de Oleo.

Corpus Christi southpaw Ryan Hartman (11-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on just three hits over six innings. Opposing starter Edgar Arredondo (0-4) took the loss in the Texas League game after allowing three runs and nine hits over seven innings.
