Chamber sets Wellness Expo in Sherwood

A major component of health and wellness, gratitude helps us to appreciate the blessings we already have and sparks the anticipatory pleasure of blessings to come.

LIMB LOSS

Last year I learned about ABLE (Amputees Beyond Life's Expectations). It's a support group for amputees. It offers education, information, training and support and sponsors fundraising events for people who cannot afford prosthetic devices.

ABLE is holding a fourth annual Fishing Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 8 at Lake Valencia in Maumelle.

The event is free for all. Lawn chairs are admissible and no fishing license is required. The activities include a fishing contest, games, face painting, a bounce house, food and drinks.

ABLE support group meetings are:

• 11 a.m. on the first Monday of each month at Baptist Rehabilitation Institute, 9501 Baptist Health Drive in Little Rock.

• 11 a.m. on the second Monday of each month at Baptist Springhill Rehabilitation Institute, 3333 Springhill Drive in North Little Rock.

• 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the Eugene J. Towbin Heathcare Center (Fort Roots) in North Little Rock, in the Razorback Room.

• 11 a.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Conway Regional Rehabilitation, 2210 Robinson Ave. in Conway.

FOR COUPLES

Even though I'm a widow and am not part of a couple these days, I am well aware of how important healthy and fulfilling relationships can be to our well-being. And I also know how bad unhealthy, unfulfilling relationships can be. It makes sense.

The Couples Center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is holding a four-part series designed to help couples of all ages revive their relationships and gain a better understanding of the problems they face throughout the length of their partnership.

The sessions will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25, and Oct. 2 and 9 in the lobby gallery at UAMS. The cost of attending all four sessions is $250 per couple; parking is free and light snacks will be served.

To register, go to relationshipenrichment.eventbrite.com. For information, call (501) 526-8100 or email [email protected].

The series is presented by the center's director, Chelsea Wakefield, Ph.D., who is also a licensed clinical social worker. She's a psychotherapist, a couple's therapist, author, educator, and a workshop and retreat leader who works with individuals, couples and groups.

If you want to find out more about her, go to chelseawakefield.com.

Topics covered include personal growth, communicating needs and desires, working through sexual difficulties and meaningful connections.

Says Wakefield, "It's never too late to learn ways of deepening your love and satisfaction. It's important for couples to continue to grow and these sessions will help couples grow whether they are just dating, newly married or celebrating 50 years of marriage."
