Noise sets off lockdown at Bentonville schools

BENTONVILLE -- Elm Tree Elementary and Ardis Ann Middle schools went under a brief lockdown this morning in response to a suspicious sound in the building, according to police and School District officials.

Staff members called 911 at 7:54 a.m. when they heard what they thought to be shots fired. School officials followed procedure and immediately went into lockdown, according to a news release from the police.

Officers arrived at 7:57 a.m. and investigated. The noise was determined to have come from a bathroom stall door that had fallen off its hinges. Officers searched the building and declared the scene safe at 8:21 a.m., according to the release.

Elm Tree and Ardis Ann are conjoined schools with roughly 1,400 students combined.
