Teen charged as an adult in shooting incident

BENTONVILLE -- Prosecutors charged a 16-year-old as an adult in connection with a shooting incident near the Rogers Public Library over the weekend.

Chandler Joseph Castoe is charged with aggravated robbery, handgun possession by minor or possession on school property, and aggravated assault. Prosecutors filed the charging information Monday in Benton County Circuit Court.

According to the charging information, Castoe met up Saturday with another juvenile for a prearranged marijuana deal in the library's parking lot, 711 S. Dixieland Road.

A press release from the Rogers Police Department states four juveniles were involved in the incident. Two of the juveniles were in a BMW.

Castoe is accused of demanding drug money from one juvenile while pointing a loaded handgun at another juvenile, according to court documents. Castoe struck the vehicle's driver in the head with the handgun and shot the gun. The bullet shattered the BMW's sun roof, according to court documents.

The two male juveniles not in the car fled and the injured driver drove around the corner onto South Dixieland Road and got out of the vehicle, according to the press release.

The juvenile driver with the injury was transported to Mercy Medical for a head injury.

Castoe was arrested Sunday and is being held in the Benton County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police are still searching for the second juvenile suspect, according to the press release.
