A case of county JPs representing people
What is the Quorum Court? A nice definition was placed in the Aug. 11 Democrat-Gazette article regarding candidates for justice of the peace. There was one glaring omission in this definition: JPs represent the people of their district. That is what they did when they denied a conditional-use permit.
This permit would allow a business to locate on property zoned for agriculture and single-family residential use.
The JPs did a thorough job investigating how this business might fit into this rural neighborhood and how it would affect the neighbors. Their efforts to represent this district was what we all should expect from those who represent us.
This land owner does not even live on the property that he is requesting the conditional-use permit for. If you wanted to start a business, wouldn’t you purchase property zoned for that purpose?
Do you want your JP to represent your interests or those of an absentee land owner who will change your neighborhood? We all have the opportunity to learn about the candidates running to represent us this November. Make sure you know who and what you are voting for and then vote!
