Ogando, Gutierrez lead Naturals to win over RockHounds

MIDLAND, Texas — Kelvin Gutierrez hit a three-run home run and had three hits, and Emilio Ogando allowed just two hits over six innings as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals defeated the Midland RockHounds 8-0 on Wednesday.

Ogando (10-6) picked up the win after he struck out six and walked two.

In the top of the second, NW Arkansas scored on an error that brought home Alfredo Escalera. In the following at-bat, Jecksson Flores hit a two-run single to give the Naturals a 3-0 lead. The Naturals then added two runs in the third and three in the fourth. In the third, Alex Liddi hit a two-run home run, while Gutierrez hit a three-run home run in the fourth.

Brian Howard (2-3) went four innings, allowing eight runs and 10 hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out four and walked two. Yunior Marte pitched three scoreless innings for his second save of the season.

The RockHounds were held off the scoreboard for the 12th time this season, while the Naturals’ staff recorded their ninth shutout of the year.

ARKANSAS 6, FRISCO 1

FRISCO, Texas — Eric Filia was a home run short of the cycle, driving home four runs as the Arkansas Travelers beat the Frisco RoughRiders.

Chuck Taylor singled three times with three runs for Arkansas.

Arkansas took the lead in the first when it scored four runs, including a two-run triple by Filia.

Following the big inning, the RoughRiders cut into the deficit in the second inning when Juremi Profar hit a solo home run.

The Travelers later tacked on a run in both the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Filia hit an RBI double before he hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor in the sixth.

Arkansas right-hander Williams Perez (5-1) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Walker Weickel (0-1) took the loss in the Texas League game after allowing five runs and 10 hits over five innings.

Profar homered and singled twice for the RoughRiders.

SPRINGFIELD 3

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Austin Allen hit a run-scoring single in the ninth inning, leading the San Antonio Missions to a win over the Springfield Cardinals.

The single by Allen came in the midst of a seven-run inning and gave the Missions a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, San Antonio scored on four more plays, including a two-run single by Taylor Kohlwey.

Andres Munoz (2-1) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Seth Elledge (1-1) took the loss in the Texas League game.

For the Cardinals, John Nogowski singled three times. Blake Drake homered and singled.

CORPUS CHRISTI 6, TULSA 2

TULSA, Okla. — Lorenzo Quintana had two hits and two RBI, and Brock Dykxhoorn allowed just three hits over 6 2/3 innings as the Corpus Christi Hooks defeated the Tulsa Drillers.

Dykxhoorn (3-1) allowed two runs while striking out seven and walking three to pick up the win.

Corpus Christi started the scoring in the second inning when Quintana hit a two-run triple.

After Corpus Christi added three runs, the Drillers cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Mike Ahmed hit a two-run single.

The Hooks tacked on another run in the eighth when Chas McCormick hit a solo home run.

Ben Holmes (1-1) went five innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out three and walked one.

With the win, Corpus Christi improved to 8-3 against Tulsa this season.
