Buy fair Oreos all year long

Fair enough: Oreo State Fair Cookies can now be enjoyed at home.
Fair enough: Oreo State Fair Cookies can now be enjoyed at home.

Once again, we chew on the latest food news.

OREOS

A new type of Oreo isn't found on grocery shelves.

Oreo State Fair Cookies are found in the freezer section in Vanilla Crunch and Chocolate Crunch flavors. They are available at Walmart stores, just like the make-at-home Deep Fried Twinkies introduced two years ago.

Says the description on Walmart.com: "Bring the unforgettable taste of the state fair Oreo cookie to your home with this convenient snack that is easy to serve: put them in the oven for 5 minutes or microwave in just 30 seconds."

Which is just enough time for Oreos to introduce yet another a new flavor.

CHICK-FIL-A

Blue Apron. Home Chef. HelloFresh. Chick-fil-A?

Inspired by home meal kit services, the chicken chain is testing out its Mealtime Kits -- "pre-portioned ingredients, including the same quality Chick-fil-A chicken you love, all prepped for you to cook a delicious meal at home" -- in Atlanta this month.

So it's fast-food, only a lot slower. After picking up a Mealtime Kit at the counter or drive-thru, one can "follow the recipe card with simple steps to prepare the meal in 30 minutes."

Sounds like a great new venture. Except for one minor thing.

People only go to Chick-fil-A so they don't have to cook.

BUGLES

Those crunchy cones of corn goodness already come in several salty flavors (Original, Nacho, Ranch) and one sweeter one (Sweet & Salty Caramel).

And now there's a new flavor: Bugles Churro!

It's described on General Mills' site as a "Unique, funnel-shaped crispy corn snack dusted with delicious cinnamon and sugar."

Just the thought of these new Bugles is like "Reveille" to our taste buds.

LAY'S

And some more snacky news to re-Lay's Lay's has chipped in with several new flavors. Its "Tastes of America" potato chips are a tribute to regional tastes.

The varieties, available through Sept. 23 and in the regions that inspired them, are: Cajun Spice, Chili Con Queso, Chesapeake Bay Crab Spice, Deep Dish Pizza, Fried Pickles with Ranch, New England Lobster Roll, Pimento Cheese, and lastly, Sweet Thai Chili, which sounds more like a Taste of Thailand than a Taste of America.

Want to try them all? One can try visit laystastesofamerica.com/store to buy via Amazon or Walmart, which we tried to do -- after all, we're tuber excited to sample them.

But they were at least temporarily out of stock, so we're off to a bad starch.

PANERA

Everyone is bowled over by a new item that Panera is testing in the Philadelphia market this month.

The -- oh dough, they didn't! -- double bread bowl.

The hollowed-out loaf of bread has not just one but two holes for ordering different soups or -- for extra health -- mac and cheese before it's devoured and the carbohydrate coma sets in.

There's a chance the double bread bowl will roll ("bun" intended) out nationwide, so here's hoping the experiment is a souper success.

STARBUCKS

Starbucks addicts will be foaming at the mouth for several new drinks in September.

There's the Cordusio, espresso with steamed milk, mocha sauce and cocoa powder. And two chilled beverages will be introduced: the Cold Foam Dark Cocoa Nitro and the Iced Maple Pecan Latte with Cold Foam.

Oh, you don't care? You just want to know about the Pumpkin Spice Latte already and feel steamed I've kept you waiting this long? Fine, it's time to spill the beans.

In just two weeks, says BusinessInsider.com, Starbucks' PSL season will start earlier than usual; Aug. 28 will be the debut of the latte that last year wasn't available until September. For those who don't drink a latte coffee, the PSL will be joined by the TPSCT, or Teavana Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea.

Mark your calendars a-gourdingly.
