Receptions set for new ASU-Beebe chief

A series of receptions has been scheduled so that several communities can meet Arkansas State University-Beebe's new chancellor, Jennifer Methvin.

The schedule is:

• ASU-Beebe campus: 4 p.m.-5 p.m. today, Walmart/Regions Room in the Dr. Eugene McKay Student Center.

• ASU-Beebe's Heber Springs campus: 12 p.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Entergy Room in the Administration Building.

• ASU-Beebe's Searcy campus: 4 p.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Main Building, Room 117.

Each reception is open to the public.

Methvin, whose hiring was announced in April, started at ASU-Beebe on July 1. She spent the past four years as president of Crowder College in Neosho, Mo.

From 2005-2014, she was vice chancellor for academics at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, where Arkansas State University System President Chuck Welch was chancellor from 2005-2008.

Methvin began her higher education career as an adjunct instructor at ASU-Beebe before being hired as assistant professor of English at the Newport campus of ASU-Beebe in 1993.

From 1999-2005, she was division chair of arts and sciences at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville.

She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in creative writing and English at Arkansas Tech University, a Master of Arts in creative writing and English at Oklahoma State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in community college leadership at Walden University.

ASU-Beebe has an average enrollment of more than 4,500 students, with additional campuses in Heber Springs, Searcy and the Little Rock Air Force Base, and online programs.

Founded in 1927, it is the oldest two-year college in the state.
