PINE BLUFF -- Pine Bluff was without street car service for several hours yesterday and a large number of people had to walk to work, as the result of an accident to the electric generator at the power plant of the Pine Bluff company. When service was begun only half the usual number of cars were operated and service was suspended at 7:30 o'clock at night in order that there might be sufficient power for lighting. It was said that it might be several days before repairs are made and in the meantime consumers are urged to use as little electric current as possible.

• The Mayor's Advisory Council on Youth Activity met with Mayor Borchert Thursday and told him a few things about parks. Primarily, the young members said, the city needs more parks south of Roosevelt Road and a community center in the area. The meeting was at the Union A.M.E. • Those concerned with the rights of crime victims were warned Sunday that a new state law on sentencing could result in shorter prison terms for Arkansas criminals. Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Stodola told representatives of several victims' rights organizations that the Arkansas Sentencing Commission, a new entity created by the General Assembly during the recent legislative session, might adopt sentencing guidelines that would release some nonviolent offenders after they had served only one-sixth of their sentences.

• A former Magnolia teacher supplied three teens with alcohol and arranged for a variety of sexual encounters, including several with an El Dorado man, authorities said Friday. Donna L. Sanders, 46, gave beer and vodka to the teens, and took two girls, ages 12 and 13, to motels in El Dorado to have sex with "guys," including the 22-year-old man, according to a police report released Friday. A 15-year-old boy told investigators he had sex with a 12-year-old girl in the backseat of Sanders' car while she drove them around with the music turned up, the report states. Authorities on Friday were looking for the El Dorado man, who is wanted on rape charges.
