Arkansas teen wanders off, drowns in pond

APPLETON -- A teenage boy who drowned in a Pope County pond Wednesday was a special-needs child, the sheriff's office said Thursday.

Carson Tanner was reported missing after he wandered away from home about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Within 30 minutes, rescue workers and officers from various agencies joined a search for the boy.

The sheriff's office and the Arkansas State Police have investigated the case and have ruled it an accidental drowning, the statement said.
