BOLO BASH: Susan ‘Erica Kane’ Lucci the guest of honor at Baptist Health Medical Center’s luncheon

Susan Lucci -- who played heroine-vixen Erica Kane on the long-running soap opera All My Children -- charmed guests at the March 28 Bolo Bash luncheon supporting Baptist Health Medical Center.

The night before, Lucci arrived in Little Rock with her husband, Helmut Huber, to attend a VIP reception at the downtown condo of Sandy and Steve Landers. Nothing like her character, the gracious Lucci posed with guests, answered questions and told stories from her daytime soap opera days at the luncheon.

"This is a first for Erica Kane -- being invited to speak to Baptists!" Lucci told a packed room at the hospital's J.A. Gilbreath Conference Center. All My Children ran from 1970-2011.

After a brief speech, Lucci sat down with event emcee Lisa Fischer for a question-answer style interview. One question was where does she keep the Emmy she won in 1999 after 19 straight nominations, but losses, in the best actress category.

At first, she said she kept it in her bedroom because she didn't want to seem boastful. But it is now "center stage on a mantel" in her living room with a pin-dot light over it.

Unlike Erica Kane, Lucci has been married to her first and only husband, Huber, since 1969. (Kane was married at least 10 times -- but not all legally.) And yes. It is hard to believe the always youthful looking Lucci is 71. But she and her husband are grandparents -- they have two children and five grandchildren.
