WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Caregivers congratulations: Alzheimer’s Arkansas raises big bucks for aid, education, research, support

Alzheimer's Arkansas' annual Champions Gala was held March 31, beginning with a VIP reception in the Pinnacle Room at the Little Rock Marriott.

During the dinner that followed in the Marriott's ballroom, organization leaders honored Rick Fleetwood, who cared for his mother, Jean Fleetwood, after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's; Priscilla Pittman, retired executive director of Alzheimer's Arkansas; and Jennifer Batesel, outstanding volunteer for the organization.

A live auction featured jewelry, travel and artwork. Artist Ellen Hobgood of Heber Springs was at the event to personalize a painting of Santa for the Alzheimer's Arkansas supporter who won it at the auction.

The event, led by chairman Vivian Trickey Smith, raised more than $230,000 for Alzheimer's Arkansas, which offers education, training, financial aid and support groups for caregivers of people throughout Arkansas who care for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease.

The organization offers a 24-hour caregiver support line, as well.
