April 7, 1918

TINSMAN -- James Nickols, a farmer, who lives three miles east of here, was killed by lightning yesterday. A mule he was riding was also killed by the bolt. Nickols left home to hunt a cow and was overtaken by the storm. His body was found early this morning beside the dead mule. He is survived by his wife and six children.

April 7, 1968

• A 71-year-old man who moved recently from Los Angeles to Pine Bluff has been arrested on a charge of issuing a false $1 million bank draft in Calexico, Cal., on February 19. The United States marshal's office said that Frank E. Consezzitan, also known as Salmo Pat Patterson and Frank E. Ezzitan, was being held in the Pulaski County Jail under $5,000 bond awaiting a preliminary hearing before United States Commissioner John E. Coates. Commissioner Coates set Consezzitan's bond Friday but postponed his preliminary hearing until his attorney could be present.

• A Little Rock teenager who said he unintentionally shot and killed a friend last summer was sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter. After deliberating about an hour, a Pulaski County Circuit Court jury convicted Terrance Clark, 18, of the charge in the Aug. 10, 1992, death of David Fudge, 16, of 65 Highland Circle. Clark, of 17 Monroe Drive, had been charged with second-degree murder. He was given the minimum prison sentence for the lesser charge of manslaughter, with credit for nearly eight months served in jail.

HOPE -- A prosecutor has concluded that three law enforcement officers were justified in fatally shooting a suspect who had just wounded an Arkansas state trooper at a home near Hope. Fred Moore, 43, of Hempstead County shot state police Special Agent Scott Clark in the right arm and shoulder with a handgun on March 12. Clark, Hempstead County sheriff's Lt. Frankie McJunkins and state police Sgt. John Bishop returned fire, killing Moore. Prosecutor Chris Thomason said the officers were in danger and had to use their weapons.
