Sad Daddy

Sad Daddy, plus opening act Nate Kennedy, will perform at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $6.

Sad Daddy is a two-man, two-woman group of acoustic musicians who blend folk, bluegrass and other strains of sometimes humorous topics, as exemplified by the band's name -- taken from an expression for a larger than average fish that has been fooled into taking a fisherman's bait.

Brian Martin plays guitar, harmonica, bouzouki and mouth horns; Melissa Carper plays upright bass; Joe Sundell plays banjo and harmonica; and Rebecca Patek plays fiddle. Martin, Carper and Sundell founded the group and write the songs. Patek joined later and all four provide vocals. For a time, Carper and Sundell were based in Austin, Texas, but all four now call the Eureka Springs area home.

The band released a self-titled CD in 2010 and are now touring to promote its follow-up, Fresh Catch, released last fall. The album features a dozen original songs, one of which, "Georgetown One-Stop," is a salute to a legendary Arkansas catfish restaurant.
