Fire

Fayetteville

• Fire destroyed a house at 5:11 a.m. Sunday at 217 W. Meadow St. said Dale Riggins, administrative assistant at the Fire Department. Fire had spread to half the home before firefighters arrived, he said. The 1920s house had been modified for apartments. Riggins said he did not know how many people were home when fire broke out. People crawled out of the house and onto the roof to escape. No one was hurt, Riggins said. The 2,346-square-foot house that belonged to the Larry Donald Shaffer Revocable Trust, is appraised at $223,100, property records show. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Riggins said.
