Family care home to be dedicated this morning

SPRINGDALE -- Single mothers have a new place to call home in times of need.

Arkansas Baptist Children's Homes Family Care Home at 1958 Chapman Road will hold its dedication at 10 a.m. today.

The new home has eight family suites for mothers who need a helping hand, said state Rep. Robin Lundstrum, R-Elm Springs, who announced the dedication in a news release.

"It's set up for them to be able to take care of their family in a stable environment," Lundstrum said.

The home provides training sessions on life skills, money management and parenting, Lundstrum said.

"There's a lot of support and a lot of love," she said. "It gives them a chance to regroup in a safe place."

The home is available to women going through life difficulties, such as homelessness, financial crisis or domestic abuse, Lundstrum said.

Referrals will come from churches of all denominations, local charities and agencies such as local housing authorities and the state Department of Human Services, John Ross of Arkansas Baptist Children's Homes said in December when the facility was announced.

As long as the parent makes progress toward a clear goal of self-sufficiency, she and her children can stay for the needed time.

Arkansas Baptist Children's Home Ministries has a Family Care Home in Jonesboro. Ministries selected Springdale as the Northwest Arkansas location because Cross Church donated an acre of land, Lundstrum said.

Margie Hall, a longtime Elm Springs resident and Lundstrum's mother, and her family paid the construction costs, Ross said.

Churches, individuals and businesses funded the facility's creation through private donations, Lundstrum said. Lundstrum would not disclose how much it cost to build the facility.
