TEXARKANA -- Charles Harrison, Walter Wellborn and James Woods, negro bellboys at the Huckins house, were held for the Miller County Grand Jury on charges of pandering, following a preliminary hearing before Judge J. D. Cook in the Municipal Court this morning. The bond of each was placed at $300, which none have made. Two white women who had registered at the hotel, and a local detective were the principal witnesses against the defendants. The two women pleaded guilty to charges of immorality and were fined $9.15 each, including costs.

Sept. 25, 1967

• Little Rock police raided three private clubs early Sunday, arrested and charged six persons with selling whiskey without a license and confiscated a large amount of liquor. The arrests were made at 1:15 a.m. after detectives, dressed as Razorback fans with red hats and ties, were admitted to the clubs without membership cards and sold liquor, Police Chief R. E. Brains said. The detectives were denied admission to nine other private clubs, Brians said. They were admitted to one more but were not sold liquor, he said.

HELENA -- A jury convicted Calvin Marshall on Thursday of two capital murder charges and single charges of rape and kidnapping after deliberating four hours. Marshall, 24, of Helena (Phillips County) was charged in the Oct. 1 1991, deaths of Susan Conwell, 26, and Robert Scheid, 43, both of Victorian Village, Ohio. Conwell was raped twice and both victims were stabbed numerous times. A former co-defendant agreed to plead guilty to rape in exchange for his testimony against Marshall.

FORT SMITH -- A couple whose 22-month-old daughter died Saturday after being left in a locked vehicle are expected to be charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide today, Sebastian County prosecutors said. Mirna Luz Marin, 30, and Jose Erubiel Marin-Mendez, 22, both of 1907 Waco St. in Fort Smith, were arrested Saturday. Marin was released from the Sebastian County jail after posting a $10,000 bond Sunday. Marin-Mendez was being held without bail on a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold. A Fort Smith police arrest report said Marin-Mendez is an illegal alien.
