UA's Murphy-Erby

now diversity chief

FAYETTEVILLE -- Yvette Murphy-Erby, a University of Arkansas, Fayetteville social work professor, has been named the university's top diversity officer.

Murphy-Erby began Sept. 15 as UA's vice provost for diversity and inclusion.

She was hired after a national search. Three finalists were invited for May visits to campus.

"We made an offer to one of the finalists who ultimately declined the offer and chose to stay at her current institution," Provost Jim Coleman said in a statement.

Murphy-Erby joined UA's faculty in 2004 and is stepping down as director for UA's School of Social Work. She also has served as an associate dean.

In a statement, Murphy-Erby said an early task will involve working to facilitate "a central location for diversity related efforts."

She now earns $190,428, up from her salary of $163,526 as director of UA's School of Social Work, said UA spokesman Steve Voorhies.

The previous top diversity officer, Charles Robinson, earned $244,000 as vice chancellor for diversity and community, Voorhies said. Robinson last year was named vice chancellor of student affairs.

UA-UAMS program

FAYETTEVILLE -- Sherry Muir has been appointed to lead an occupational therapy doctoral program being started by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock.

Muir, who began her duties Sept. 1, will prepare the program for accreditation, according to a statement from UA-Fayetteville. The university is expecting to admit students starting in 2019.

Muir has been an occupational therapist since 1991 and previously taught at Saint Louis University. She earned a doctorate in public policy and administration from Walden University and a master's degree in occupational therapy from Texas Woman's University. Muir also has a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri.

Muir earns $150,000, with 51 percent of her salary paid by UA-Fayetteville and 49 percent paid by UAMS, said Steve Voorhies, a UA-Fayetteville spokesman.
