Painting, sign jobs to slow I-49 traffic

Construction on a $27.7 million project to widen a 3.5-mile section of Interstate 49 in Bentonville and Rogers will require overnight lane closings for three weeks beginning today, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews installing overhead signs and painting bridges on I-49 will require the lanes in both directions to be alternately closed between U.S. 62/Arkansas 102 and Central Avenue/Arkansas 72 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Oct. 13, weather permitting.

During the lane closures, the work will require short, intermittent traffic stops for all lanes while work is performed over the interstate, the department said. Traffic will be controlled by the Arkansas State Police, along with signs and traffic barrels.
