Arkansas man arrested after wife found dead in their home

A Newton County man has been arrested in the death of his wife.

Andrew Liddell, 69, was arrested after police found the body of Annie Elizabeth Liddell, 70, in the couple's home near Marble Falls, according to a news release from the Newton County sheriff's office.

A deputy responded to the Liddell residence Tuesday night for a welfare concern, according to the release.

The deputy arrived to find Andrew Liddell outside the residence and his wife inside, dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, said Newton County investigator Glenn Wheeler. He said a third party had called the sheriff's office.

Andrew Liddell was taken into custody without incident and was being held Thursday in the Newton County jail in Jasper with bail set at $100,000.

Annie Liddell's body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory for autopsy.

The death is still under investigation. The Newton County jail log indicates Liddell is being held on a murder accusation, but formal charges have yet to be filed.
