24-year firefighter now assistant chief

Beau Buford has been promoted to assistant fire chief, city officials announced.

Buford joined the department Sept. 27, 1993, earning a promotion to lieutenant in 2000 then captain in 2004. He is certified as an EMT instructor, paramedic instructor, critical-care paramedic and hazardous-materials technician.

A 1988 graduate of North Little Rock High School, Buford has served in the Army Reserve for 29 years as a command sergeant-major.

Buford's new annual salary is $78,377.50, according to a city spokesman. Buford moves into the position vacated when Gerald Tucker became fire chief in July.

Fans of Night at Rep advised to act early

Tickets are now available for the 19th annual A Night at the Rep theater performance and silent auction.

The event will be Nov. 28 at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, 601 Main St. in Little Rock, sponsored by the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce.

A performance of The Gift of the Magi is set for 7 p.m. -- after the silent auction and reception, which begin at 5 p.m.

The event has sold out for the past three years, so those wanting to attend are advised to reserve their tickets early, according to a chamber news release. Tickets are $45 and include food and drinks and the theater performance.

The event is a fundraiser for the chamber's educational programs, including Arkansas Scholars, Leadership Renaissance and scholarships for area students.

Donations for the silent auction are being sought by the chamber. Suggested items include sports memorabilia, vacation packages, electronic devices, tickets to sporting or cultural events, original artwork, gift certificates or themed gift baskets with a $25 minimum value. Sponsorship opportunities for businesses also are available.

More information is available from the chamber at (501) 372-5959.
