SPRINGDALE -- Power was restored after 90 minutes to thousands of city residents left in the dark Thursday afternoon.

"Everything's back on," said Peter Main, spokesman for Southwestern Electric Power Company's Fayetteville office.

Circuits were restored about 3:30 p.m. at a substation where an unspecified problem arose about 2 p.m. and caused about 3,900 customers in the central part of the city to lose power, Main said.

"We're still working on determining the cause," Main said. "There was a problem with the substation that serves the area, but there is no specific info beyond that."

Lt. Jeff Taylor of the Springdale Police Department said he hadn't heard of any significant problems being caused to city services or residents as a result of the outage.
