Board delays vote on pets in vehicles

The Little Rock Board of Directors put off a vote Tuesday that would have set conditions upon which an officer could remove an animal in distress from a vehicle.

City Director Capi Peck had asked for the ordinance that would have set minimum and maximum temperatures at which animals are allowed to be unattended inside a vehicle or truck bed if they are in distress.

Some board members had questions on how hunting dogs that are kenneled during cold weather hunting trips would be handled under the proposed ordinance. City Director B.J. Wyrick said she wanted an exemption for livestock such as cattle and horses that are transported in trailers without air conditioning.

City Manager Bruce Moore told the board he would produce a revised ordinance in 30 days that takes into account the comments made Tuesday.
