Fight with deputies leaves man dead

Arkansas authorities say a man died in custody after a struggle with a group of Cleburne County deputies Saturday night.

According to a news release from the Cleburne County sheriff"s office, an ambulance was making a medical call at 502 W. Heber Springs Road in Heber Springs, when a man in the area began "acting disorderly."

Cleburne County deputies attempted to talk to the man, but they said he began to fight them.

After a "very intense physical altercation," the deputies took the man into custody and discovered he was in medical distress, according the release.

Some of the deputies began CPR while another ran to the ambulance for help. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man's name was not released Sunday.
