Escapee captured 2nd time in weeks

Arkansas authorities say they have captured an inmate who on Friday escaped for the second time in about five weeks.

Cross County Sheriff J. R. Smith said he began watching a residence at 805 Block St. in Wynne around 6:50 a.m. Sunday. A few hours later, he confirmed that escapee Bryan Baldwin, 43, was inside.

Around 11:20 a.m., a team of sheriff's deputies and Wynne police officers entered the residence and found Baldwin hiding in the attic.

After falling through the ceiling and onto the floor, Baldwin was arrested and taken to Cross County jail. He was seen by medical workers there before being transported to a local emergency room.

When officers first brought Baldwin to the Cross County jail on a DWI charge on Aug. 7, he ran before they could finish booking him, police said. After he was captured last week, he escaped through a fence surrounding the jail's exercise yard while eight inmates distracted a jailer, Smith said.
