$50,000 gift to aid UA foreign studies

FAYETTEVILLE -- A family's gift of $50,000 to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville will create a study abroad scholarship for business students.

John and Tamara Roberts are making the gift along with their children, UA graduate Connor and current UA student Blakely.

"One of the many reasons we wanted to support the study abroad program is because we have seen the benefits firsthand -- not only with our son, Connor, but with our friends' children as well," Tamara Roberts said in a statement released by the university.

John Roberts is president and chief executive officer of Lowell-based J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., and both he and Tamara Roberts earned bachelor's degrees from UA. They live in Fayetteville.

In the 2016-17 academic year, 348 students in UA's Sam M. Walton College of Business studied abroad, according to data tracked by the university. The business college had an enrollment of about 6,100 in fall 2016.
