Croker Quintet starts jazz series

The Theo Croker Quintet will perform at 8 p.m. today in the Oxford American's first show in the 2017-2018 Jazz Series at South on Main in Little Rock. Tickets are $29, $33.50 or $47.

Croker is a trumpeter, singer and bandleader from Leesburg, Fla., and is the grandson of Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Doc Cheatham.

The Oberlin College Conservatory-educated Croker released his debut album, The Fundamentals, in 2006 and followed up with In the Tradition in 2009, Afro Physicist in 2014 and Escape Velocity in 2016.

Rockabilly singer and piano pounder Jason D. Williams will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday for the Wilson Music Series at The Grange at Wilson Gardens in Wilson. Tickets are $45.

Williams, a native of El Dorado, has toured and recorded since the 1980s, when he became known for his resemblance, musically and personally, to the young Jerry Lee Lewis. Williams even provided his fingers and hands to accompany close-ups of actor Dennis Quaid, who was portraying Lewis in the film Great Balls of Fire.

Kellie Pickler and Three Dog Night will perform this weekend for the Hot Springs Rally, a gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts that will be open to the public. Pickler will perform at 8 p.m. Friday and Three Dog Night at 8 p.m. Saturday, with both shows at the Bank of the Ozarks Arena. Tickets are $50 for access to all events; $35 for rally only pass (no concerts), $35 for Friday events only and $35 for Saturday events only.

The rally will also include a vendor mall, downtown parade, poker run, kids events and biker bingo.
