RB Bell tried to get DQ'd from Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell passed his physical on Friday and will rejoin the team on Monday after ending his holdout in a dispute over his franchise tag.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell apparently was willing to find other work if he didn't earn a desired contract after his recent holdout.

The 25-year-old filled out an application for a position at a Dairy Queen.

"I'm jobless right now," Bell said in a video tweeted Thursday. "I've got to get a job.

"Aye, I just gotta keep my options open."

There's no word yet on whether he landed an interview.

Bell entered the team facility Friday afternoon, fulfilling his public promise to return Sept. 1. The team said later Friday that Bell passed his physical and will rejoin the team Monday.

Whether he officially signed his $12.1 million franchise tender is not confirmed, although that is the expectation. Signing allows Bell to officially prepare with his team for the Sept. 10 season opener at Cleveland.

Momma Serena

Serena Williams earned her latest title -- mom -- Friday when she reportedly gave birth to a baby girl at a Florida hospital, according to WPBF-TV reporter Chris Shepherd.

Citing a source from St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where Williams reportedly checked in Wednesday to be induced, Shepherd's colleague Patricia Storm reported that the new addition weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was delivered via Caesarean section. Both mother and baby are said to be healthy.

This is Williams' and fiance Alexis Ohanian's first child.

Still on the team

On Friday, the Atlanta Braves made a series of roster moves to shift players around and/or make room on the 40-man roster. One of the moves they announced was their designation of 26-year-old infielder Micah Johnson for assignment.

That really isn't a big deal. Johnson has played in only four major league games this year and has only four plate appearances. He's hit well in the minors, but it's not like he was forcing himself into the Braves' future plans.

The only problem was that the Braves didn't actually designate him for assignment, even though they announced that they did. They chalked it up to "internal confusion," resulting from club officials talking about designating Johnson for assignment but deciding against it. The confusion led to a bit of awkwardness when Johnson himself learned of the alleged designation on Twitter.

The Braves retracted the designation minutes later.

She's got game

A Florida high school junior threw for a touchdown on the very first pass of her high school football career.

It was just the third snap from center for Holly Neher in her debut Thursday night for Hollywood Hills High School. It was a 42-yard scoring play to Alexander Shelton late in the fourth quarter of a 21-7 loss to Hallandale High School.

Neher told the Miami Herald she was "pretty excited."

She's not the first girl to play quarterback in Broward County, which is north of Miami in South Florida. But she's the first to throw a touchdown pass. In 2012, South Plantation's Erin Dimeglio played quarterback.

Neher finished the game 2 for 4 with 66 yards -- and the 1 touchdown pass.
