BENTONVILLE -- A Rogers man was arrested Tuesday in connection with assaulting his girlfriend and killing her puppy.

Dusten Blake Ward, 24, was being held Friday in the Benton County Jail with a $10,000 bond set.

Ward was arrested in connection with aggravated assault on a family or household member, aggravated animal cruelty and interference with emergency communications. Prosecutors haven't filed any formal charges against Ward.

According to probable cause affidavit, a Benton County Sheriff's Office deputy was dispatched Monday to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale in response to woman being assaulted in Benton County.

She told the deputy the incident happened at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 22, according to the affidavit.

Brooke Teague told the deputy she lives with Ward at 14026 Whiteoak Lane and the two had been arguing about her hound puppy.

According to the affidavit, Teague told the deputy Ward choked her and then smashed her head on the floor and she lost consciousness.

Teague said Ward dragged her across the floor and threw her outside and she grabbed a metal pipe to defend herself. Teague took the metal pipe and her cellphone from her and broke the phone and then hit her with the pipe several times, according to the affidavit.

She told police Ward hit the puppy several times with the pipe and killed it.

Ward's arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. Dec. 4 in Circuit Judge Robin Green's courtroom.
