Beer-bottle whack leads to charges

A central Arkansas man is accused of beating his daughter's boyfriend with a beer bottle, saying the boyfriend couldn't "afford" her, police said.

About 10 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a fight near the intersection of Rene Street and South Road in Jacksonville, according to an arrest report.

They found Ricky Earl Lewis, 56, and another man walking around the front yard of an apartment on Rene Street, the report said. Both were said to have injuries to their faces. Lewis smelled of intoxicants, police noted.

The other man told officers that Lewis was his girlfriend's father. Lewis had driven up to the victim's home, intoxicated, and gotten out yelling about how the man couldn't "afford his daughter," according to the report.

The boyfriend said Lewis had a beer bottle in his hand and swung at him, striking him in the head, according to the report. This led to a fistfight that ended with both men on the ground, the victim told police.

Officers saw a cut on the left side of the victim's face at the hairline and a broken green Heineken bottle on the ground in front of the apartment. There was another green Heineken bottle in the passenger seat of Lewis' vehicle, which was parked in the front lot, police said.

Lewis was being held Friday night at the Pulaski County jail on charges of second-degree battery, second-degree terroristic threatening and aggravated assault on a family or household member.

Evans tagged the victim in the reported social media threat, police said, but the report didn't detail a motive.
