Accidents fatal for two drivers on state roads

A 78-year-old woman died in an accident in Crittenden County on Wednesday, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police, who also reported the death of another senior citizen in a crash earlier this month.

Barbara Boehm of Spring Valley, Ill., 78, died in Arkansas on Wednesday after her sport utility vehicle hit a barrier wall on Interstate 55 in West Memphis, state police said.

According to the report, Boehm was driving south on the interstate about 2:30 p.m. when her Chevrolet Equinox struck the barrier. The vehicle then traveled across the inside lane, left the interstate, and eventually came to rest on Interstate 40, authorities said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the report.

Also Wednesday, state police reported that an 88-year-old woman died of injuries related to a collision on a highway in north Arkansas.

The crash happened about 10:30 a.m. Oct. 18 as a 2006 Toyota was traveling south on Arkansas 201 in Baxter County, according to a state police report.

The report said an eastbound 2008 Toyota driven by Doris Sherry of Mountain Home pulled into the path of the first vehicle at Old Military Road, causing the 2006 Toyota to strike Sherry's vehicle on its left side.

Sherry suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

State police spokesman Liz Chapman said it was not known when the woman died, describing it as a "delayed fatality" report.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of both crashes, state police said.
