Hikers explore White Rock

Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club has set two hikes at White Rock Mountain on Nov. 2.

Hikers can choose from a 2-mile loop hike around the top of the mountain or a difficult 6-mile hike that visits Shores Lake.

All hikers are welcome. Meet at 7 a.m. at Lowe's in Bella Vista for carpooling or at the trailhead at 9 a.m. Bring a sack lunch.

Guide talks tailwater trout

The Arkansas chapter of Trout Unlimited meets Nov. 6 at Whole Hog Cafe Fiesta Square shopping center in Fayetteville.

Dinner and social time is at 6 p.m. The program is at 7 p.m. Chad Johnson, a fishing guide on the White River below Bull Shoals Dam, will talk about stream tactics for autumn trout fishing.

Longs win classic

Jim and June Long won the Beaver Lake Guys and Gals two-day championship classic Oct. 14-15 at Table Rock and Beaver lakes. They had a two-day total of nine bass that weighed 15.26 pounds.

Wayne and Linda Dirck were second with seven bass at 12.44 pounds. Mike and Cara Rose placed third with six bass at 11.83 pounds.

Oscar and Susan Creger had big bass on day one at 4.07 pounds. The Roses had second place big bass on day one at 3.04 pounds.

The Roses also had big bass on day two at 2.42 pounds. Gene and Barbara Mitchel had second place big bass on day two at 2.25 pounds.

Two sunset cruises left

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area holds its last two sunset pontoon boat cruises at Beaver Lake on Thursday and Sunday.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6-12, plus tax. Departure times vary. Call the visitor center, 479-789-5000 to register.

Naturalists offer training

Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists are taking applications for new member training.

Classes start Jan. 20 for Benton County, Jan. 24 for Carroll County and Jan. 27 for Washington and Madison counties. Benton, Washington and Madison county classes are on alternating Saturdays. Carroll County classes meet on Wednesdays with field time to be determined.

Cost is $135 for training and materials, plus $30 annual dues. Cost is $80 for a second household member if materials are shared, plus annual dues.

Over 60 hours of instruction are offered in areas such as wildlife, watersheds, geology, native and invasive species. Most classes combine classroom and field work.
