Bull Shoals Dam roadway to shut

Maintenance by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on a section of Arkansas 178 over Bull Shoals Dam in Marion County will require the section to be closed Monday and Tuesday and then reduced to a single lane of traffic through the fall of 2018, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Both lanes of Arkansas 178 across Bull Shoals Dam will be closed from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday to allow equipment needed to work on the dam tainter gates to be staged. One lane will remain closed both days from 7 p.m. until 8 a.m., the department said.

Beginning Wednesday, the section of highway on the dam will be reduced to a single lane of traffic until fall 2018, the department said. Additional road closures of up to two days at a time will be scheduled every four to eight weeks to allow for moving equipment as work progresses.

Motorists who must use the highway should allow extra time to reach their destinations, the department said. Traffic will be controlled with flags, signs and traffic cones.

More information about the project is available by calling the Corps of Engineers' Mountain Home project office at (870) 425-2700.
